Appearance: Orange trees are small trees, generally 3-8 meters in height. The branches have thick long thorns, the new shoots are oblate, with edges. Leaves are single compound leaves, usually narrow or only marked, elliptic or ovate, 6-10 cm long and 3-5 cm wide, acuminate at the top, cuneate at the base, with thin, obtuse teeth at the margin. The orange flowers are solitary or 2-3 clusters in the axils of the leaves. The flowers are white, with 5 oblong petals and a strong aroma. The fruit is orange fruit, nearly round and spherical, some are oval or pear shaped, the size is different, the peel is rough, the color is mostly orange yellow to vermilion, the oil cell is convex, easy to peel. The flesh is composed of multiple flesh cloves, which are filled with juice cells. The juice cells are soft and juicy, orange-red or light yellow, and the taste is moderately sweet and sour.

Extraction part: mainly fruit peel and juice. The peel is rich in volatile aromatic substances, which is the main source for extracting essential oil from orange peel. Fruit juice is rich in nutrients and is widely used in the food and beverage industry.

Extraction method:

Peel extraction: cold pressing method is commonly used to press fresh orange peel directly and extrude essential oil through physical means, which can maximize the natural activity and aroma of essential oil. Steam distillation can also be used, using water vapor to bring out the essential oil components in the peel, through condensation, oil-water separation and other steps to obtain essential oil, but it may decompose some heat-sensitive components, resulting in loss of aroma and efficacy.

Juice extraction: Usually using the pressing method, the orange fruit is squeezed out of the juice, and then through filtration, clarification and other processes to obtain pure orange juice.

Main chemical composition:

Peel: The main components of orange peel essential oil include moniterpene compounds such as limonene, γ-terpinene and laurene, as well as alcohols and ester compounds such as linalool acetate, linalool and nerolol, which give oranges a fresh aroma. In addition, it also contains flavonoids, such as hesperidin, naringin and so on.

Juices: Contain organic acids such as vitamin C, Vitamin B₁, Vitamin B₂, citric acid, malic acid, quinic acid and minerals such as calcium, phosphorus and iron.

Main producing area: Native to southeast China, it is now mainly distributed in tropical and subtropical areas. China's main producing areas are Jiangxi Gannan, Hubei Zigui, Hunan Mayang, Sichuan Meishan, Guangdong Lianjiang and other places. Foreign countries such as Florida, Brazil, Sao Paulo state, Valencia and other places are also important orange production areas.

Note: With a fresh, bright fruity note, the first smell is a strong citrus aroma, fresh and natural, then exudes a light floral and a hint of herbal smell, rich layers, giving people a pleasant and exciting feeling.

Aroma concentration: The aroma is strong and volatile, only a small amount can emit a significant aroma, and can be clearly smelled within a certain range.

Suitable essential oils:

Lavender essential oil: Combined with orange essential oil, it can add fresh fruit aroma on the basis of soothing and relaxing. Used in aromatherapy, it can help relax the body and mind, improve the quality of sleep, and purify the air.

Diabetics: oranges contain relatively high sugar content, diabetics should be careful to eat, control intake.
